Celebrate the Chinese New Year with a concert showcasing the rich history of Chinese music, from the traditional to the contemporary. CSO Concertmaster Robert Chen and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago perform the Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto, which blends Eastern and Western musical techniques and tells the tender story of two ill-fated lovers who triumphantly turn into butterflies and fly away together. The concert will also feature China's Shaanxi Province Song and Dance Theatre National Orchestra performing on traditional instruments.

There will be a preconcert performance in Buntrock Hall from 1:45-2:30 p.m. The program will feature traditional vocal and instrumental works performed by soloists and ensembles from Dong Fang Performing Arts (www.dongfangarts.org) and Yellow River Performing Arts (www.YellowRiverPerformingArts.com). The program is free to all ticketholders.
