“No descriptive label or category could be affixed to Payton’s solos, which were as brashly original as they were technically imposing.” (Chicago Tribune). Multi-instrumentalist and trumpet virtuoso Nicholas Payton hails from New Orleans and has toured nationally since the age of 12. His forthcoming album Afro-Caribbean Mixtape draws on a global array of beats and melodies, creating a dynamic sound that is all his own. Opening this electrifying evening are two of the most versatile and distinguished jazz musicians: Steve Wilson and Lewis Nash.

Due to an unexpected scheduling conflict, Terence Blanchard has been forced to cancel the SCP Jazz series performance with his E-Collective. The concert will now feature Nicholas Payton & Afro-Caribbean Mixtape.
