Join us at Symphony Center for a joyful celebration of the centennial birthdays of Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Mongo Santamaria and Thelonious Monk, all born in the glorious year of 1917. Musical Director and former Gillespie pianist Danilo Pérez has gathered together some of these icons’ greatest musical acolytes to pay homage to the quintessential jazz artists of the 20th century and their timeless music.

Meet the artists: members of Jazz 100 will be available in the outer lobby following the performance for an informal meet and greet and CD signing.

Note: Due to speaker placement for this event, patrons in the Terrace will not experience the same high quality of sound as in other areas of Orchestra Hall.

The year 1917 marked the birth of four of jazz’s unique voices: Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Mongo Santamaria and Thelonious Monk. To celebrate this milestone, jazz pianist, composer and educator Danilo Pérez has organized a tribute titled "Jazz 100: The Music of Dizzy, Ella, Mongo and Monk."
"This performance comes at a critical time in our country, where we all need hope, peace and joy," Pérez said. "Music can bring cultures and people together, no matter their age or experience.” Read more at CSO Sounds & Stories
