Boston Symphony Orchestra Assistant Conductor Ken-David Masur makes his Chicago debut leading the Civic Orchestra in a program of works by Beethoven, Brahms and Mendelssohn. The program features Beethoven’s Overture to Egmont, composed during the Napoleonic Wars, followed by Brahms' Variations on a Theme by Haydn, which was premiered by the Vienna Philharmonic in 1873. Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 5 (Reformation), a joyful work replete with quotations from Lutheran hymns and liturgy, closes the program.
