8:00 PM

Rossini, Beethoven, S. Adams, Schumann

Thursday, March 16, 2017

Riccardo Muti leads Rossini’s Overture to La scala di seta and Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto featuring Mitsuko Uchida, an artist who “guides the audience through every conceivable emotion” (The Telegraph). Muti closes the program with a world premiere by CSO Mead Composer-in-Residence Samuel Adams and Schumann’s Fourth Symphony, in which the composer departed from the standard symphonic form to make a groundbreaking "symphony in one movement.”

Enjoy a Q&A with the artists after Tuesday's concert.

Note for the Newcomer: When Robert Schumann began working on his Fourth Symphony, he had recently gotten married. The work was intended to be a musical portrait of his new wife, Clara Wieck.
