Gershwin Piano Concerto & Dvořák Symphony No. 6

May 30

7:30 PM

Turina, Gershwin, Dvořák

Tuesday, May 30, 2017

Spanish composer Joaquín Turina’s Danzas fantásticas makes a suitable companion to George Gershwin’s lively Piano Concerto, played by Inon Barnatan. Jesús López-Cobos closes the program with Dvořák’s Sixth Symphony, an homage to the composer’s friend and mentor, Johannes Brahms.

Enjoy a Q&A with the artists after all Tuesday CSO concerts.

Note for the Newcomer: After accepting a commission from conductor Walter Damrosch to write a piano concerto, Gershwin promptly went out and purchased a book on musical form so he could learn how to structure his work.
