In its seventh season, the Overture Council is a dynamic group of Chicago area young professionals aged 25–45 who have a love of music and a desire to learn more about how to support the CSO. With over 100 members and growing, the Overture Council has quickly carved its place amongst young professional groups in Chicago. Overture Council members receive exclusive access to member social events with CSO musicians and other special opportunities. Connect with new friends who share the same interests, by becoming a part of the CSO family.

Join for the remainder of this season as well as next season using our joint membership form. We will be accepting memberships for next season beginning in mid-June. Please use our 2016/17 season form.

THE ROLE OF THE OVERTURE COUNCIL 
The role of the Overture Council is to build upon the CSO’s audience development initiatives by fostering a community for Chicago-area young professionals within the CSO family. Overture Council members contribute to the mission of the CSO through concert attendance and advocacy of the diverse musical offerings of the CSO and its community programs. In addition, the Overture Council supports the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra by raising funds on behalf of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

Soundpost
Join the Overture Council for the inaugural season of Soundpost – a postconcert event that unveils the inner-workings of music in a lounge-style environment. Overture Council Night at the Movies
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future, the Overture Council hosted an action-packed party in Symphony Center. Guests were treated to delicious hors d’oeuvres, an open bar with Back to the Future inspired drinks, live music and a raffle. We even had a DeLorean! Proceeds from the Overture Council Night at the Movies event benefited the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, one of the nation’s premier training programs for emerging professional musicians.

Friday, June 3 – Soundpost

Wednesday, May 11 – CSO 101: A Discussion with Helen Zell
This members-only event offers an opportunity to hear CSO Chair Helen Zell speak about the impact of philanthropy on her life and how young professionals can engage with nonprofit organizations.

Friday, June 3 – CSO 101: Inside the Composer’s Studio
Celebrate the end of the Overture Council season by meeting a working composer! University of Chicago professor Augusta Read Thomas will share a behind-the-scenes look at her creative process, followed by a Q&A. Augusta was the longest serving CSO composer-in-residence, in the role from 1997 to 2006.

Membership Benefits

When you join the Overture Council, you become an integral member of the CSO family. The Overture Council offers its members the chance to interact with CSO artists, staff and supporters, as well as the following benefits:

  • • Invitations to Overture Council member activities such as pre and post-concert gatherings, volunteer opportunities with the Negaunee Music Institute and other networking events.
  • • An invitation to the CSO’s Annual Meeting.

Membership Requirements
  • • Give a minimum yearly Annual Fund contribution of $50 (per household).
  • • Pay yearly dues: $50 per individual or $90 per couple.
  • • Attend two or more Symphony Center concerts each season.
