musical icons takes place when the Chicago Symphony
Orchestra welcomes CHICAGO to Symphony Center for two
special concerts. Billboard’s highest-charting American band
of all time joins the incomparable CSO to perform some of
the band’s most well-known hits, including “If You Leave
Me Now,” “(I’ve Been) Searchin’ So Long” and “Saturday in
the Park.”

A frequent Symphony Center guest and a favorite among
Chicago audiences, pianist Emanuel Ax joins mezzo-soprano
Anne Sofie von Otter in a pairing of Brahms’ thoughtful and
engaging songs with newly commissioned works by two of
today’s most sought-after composers, Nico Muhly and Missy
Mazzoli. Ax says, “I have loved Johannes Brahms’ music since
I was a teenager. After studying his music for 40 years, I wish
I had another 40 to understand it better.”

Riccardo Muti launches his exploration of the complete
Schubert symphonies with the composer’s self-titled Tragic,
in which Schubert’s sunny disposition shines through despite
the brooding introduction. CSO Judson and Joyce Green
Creative Consultant Yo-Yo Ma joins fellow cellist and Silk
Road collaborator Giovanni Sollima to premiere his newly
commissioned Concerto for Two Cellos.
