OPEN REHEARSALS
Provide your students with an up-close and
personal look at how the Chicago Symphony
Orchestra, guest conductors and guest artists
prepare for a concert by attending a CSO
Education Open Rehearsal. Intended for
students in grades 9-12 with a serious interest
in music, each rehearsal lasts approximately 2.5
hours and features pieces to be performed that
same week as part of the CSO main stage series.
Following the rehearsal, students are invited
to participate in a question and answer session
with the conductor, guest artist and/or select
members of the CSO.
During the 2013/14 season, four rehearsals will
be offered on an intermittent basis. For more
information and to request admission, please
visit
cso.org/educationopenrehearsals
.
The number of students to be admitted is limited
and reservations are required. Requests are filled on
a first-come, first-served basis.
BEYOND THE SCORE
Take your students
Beyond the Score
with one
of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s multi-
media explorations of some of the most
important pieces in the classical repertory.
Through historical narrative with live actors,
musical excerpts, and artfully designed
visual illustrations, Creative Director Gerard
McBurney creates a uniquely imaginative,
educational concert experience. Following
the presentation of
Beyond the Score
and an
intermission, the audience returns to the hall
with a new-found understanding to hear the
work in full.

CITIZEN
MUSICIAN
The
Citizen Musician
initiative exists to sustain and expand the role of music in civic and
cultural life by creating and enhancing communities through music. Shaped by the vision of
Music Director Riccardo Muti and the leadership of Judson and Joyce Green Creative
Consultant Yo-Yo Ma,
Citizen Musician
was generated as an invitation for musicians, teachers
and organizations to reflect on the value of music.
Members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra have embodied the values of
Citizen Musician
through their involvement in activities such as master classes, hospital performances and
chamber music concerts for community centers. We invite you to explore
