James Conlon and Soloists from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Tuesday, July 22, 2014
James Conlon, conductor
James Conlon, music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s summer residency at Ravinia, leads soloists from that illustrious ensemble in two works so flush with late-Romantic melody and lyricism that the fewer than 20 musicians will sound like a full orchestra. Wagner wrote the Siegfried Idyll as a birthday present for his wife, and in the Martin Theatre you can be as close to the music as she was at its first performance in their home.
