Candide Overture

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

8:00 PM
with Cameron Carpenter on the Organ
Friday, October 31, 2014

Robert Wiene's silent thriller The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a dark and exciting masterpiece credited with the first instance of a “twist ending” in film. Prepare for a Halloween night of unforgettable music, murder and mayhem when extraordinary organist Cameron Carpenter performs his original macabre score to the horror film on the thundering organ at Symphony Center. Costumes welcome!

This concert will run approx. 90 minutes

Though organist Cameron Carpenter wants to "divorce the organ from its long-suffering stereotypes,” he makes an exception for his latest project: accompanying the silent film classic "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari." "Playing organ music on Halloween probably doesn’t do that [reversing stereotypes]," he admits. But some silent films warrant special attention, he believes, and "Dr. Caligari" falls in that category." Read more at Sounds & Stories.
