Beyond the Score: A Pierre Dream
A Portrait of Pierre Boulez
Sunday, November 16, 2014
In 2015 Pierre Boulez turns 90, and Beyond the Score celebrates with a phantasmagorical acoustic and theatrical journey through a lifetime of musical adventures, innovations and discoveries. Performed within an extraordinary, specially commissioned design by world renowned architect Frank Gehry, this production will mix live performance with rare archival footage and new interviews with the composer and conductor who has been, from the beginning, one of Beyond the Score’s most passionate champions.
Beyond the Score is a musical experience like no other! Using live theater, stunning visual projections and orchestral excerpts played by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, each installment will immerse you in the compelling stories behind symphonic music. On Friday, November 14, stay after the concert for a special behind-the-scenes Q&A with Gerard McBurney, creative director of Beyond the Score.
All Friday Beyond the Score concerts include POST, your after-concert lounge with CSO musicians and guest artists. For our inaugural POST of the season we are featuring a rare appearance from pioneering Chicago ambient/experimental electronic DJ collective Atmospheric Audiochair. Have a cocktail, mingle and discuss the production!
These performances are made possible by a generous gift from Richard and Mary L. Gray.
