Takács Quartet with Marc-André Hamelin
Haydn, Debussy, Franck
Thursday, October 16, 2014
The illustrious Takács Quartet opens the 2014/15 Symphony Center Presents Chamber Music series with Debussy’s only string quartet, a sensual and impressionistic tour de force of color and texture. The brilliantly precise ensemble, deftly matched by virtuosic Canadian pianist Marc-André Hamelin, returns in the second half for Franck’s exquisite and passionate Piano Quintet.
The Takács Quartet always looks forward to playing in Orchestra Hall, even though it is much larger than a more typically intimate chamber-music venue. “There’s kind of an excitement just in playing in such a venue," said the quartet's first violinist Edward Dusinberre. "As large halls go, it’s actually one of the best." Read more at Sounds & Stories.
