Riccardo Muti’s final installment in his cycle of the complete Tchaikovsky symphonies features the noble yet poignant Fifth, with its memorable horn solo and haunting waltz. This cherished masterwork is paired with the world premiere of Mead Composer-in-Residence Mason Bates’ Anthology of Fantastic Zoology. Based on the book by Luis Borges, it promises music inspired by fantastic creatures like sprites, nymphs, sirens, banshees and naga—to name only a few.
