Symphony No. 4, Tchaikovsky
Program Notes

Muti Conducts Tchaikovsky 4

7:30 PM
Berlioz, Debussy, Tchaikovsky
Tuesday, September 30, 2014

Riccardo Muti begins this season's journey through Tchaikovsky's symphonies with the powerfully dramatic Fourth. A brilliant symphony that will display the CSO's mastery of orchestral color, its third movement features an imaginative dialogue between pizzicato strings and sprightly woodwinds.

Tchaikovsky's symphonies are the epitome of Romantic expression but their creation did not come easily. Read more at Sounds & Stories.

La mer is all about color and texture. It's program music without a program — no heroes or warriors, no love interests, no redemption or narrative. There are no moral lessons to be drawn. Debussy needs none of that. Read more at Sounds & Stories.

This series is made possible by the Juli Grainger Endowment.
