Concerto in Modo Antico, Panufnik

Muti Conducts The Firebird

Oct3
1:30 PM
Panufnik, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky
Friday, October 3, 2014

Tchaikovsky’s five-movement Third Symphony is among his liveliest and most exultant works, brimming with courtly charm and concluding with a celebratory Polonaise. Panufnik’s Concerto in modo antico continues the Polish theme, reviving tunes by Polish composers of the past in a quasi-Baroque work for trumpet and orchestra. Rounding out the concert is Stravinsky’s popular Firebird Suite, with its seductive “Princesses’ Round” and ferocious “Infernal Dance of Kaschei.”

The performance of Concerto in modo antico is generously supported by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute as part of the Polska Music program

Program

  • Panufnik Concerto in modo antico
  • Stravinsky Suite from The Firebird
