Symphony No. 9, Bruckner

Eschenbach Conducts Bruckner

Dec20
1:30 PM
Bruckner
Friday, December 20, 2013

Christoph Eschenbach, renowned conductor and former Ravinia Festival music director, leads Bruckner’s Ninth Symphony, surely the composer’s most impressive achievement. Its opening’s intense lyricism and brooding leads into the unforgettable hammering of the ferocious Scherzo and a final Adagio with sustained chords like streams of brilliant light. The CSO celebrates composer Bernard Rands’ upcoming 80th birthday with his lusciously atmospheric ... where the murmurs die ....

Program

  • Beethoven Overture to Egmont
  • Rands ...where murmurs die...
  • Bruckner Symphony No. 9
