Principal Trumpet Christopher Martin premieres Christopher Rouse’s Heimdall’s Trumpet, his second major commission from the CSO. The Chicago Sun-Times says Martin "handles every mute swap, seemingly impossible high note, and lightning-fast passage as if he need never breathe..." Tchaikovsky's monumental Manfred Symphony portrays the brooding, tormented and troubled Romantic hero from Byron’s dramatic poem.

Program

  • Shostakovich  Festive Overture
  • Rouse  Heimdall’s Trumpet for Trumpet and Orchestra [CSO Commission, World Premiere]
  • Tchaikovsky  Manfred Symphony
