Dvorák, Rachmaninov, Sibelius
Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Sir Mark Elder returns to lead one of Dvorák's more macabre tone poems, The Water Goblin, in which the mythical creature wreaks brutal revenge against the maid who forsakes him. Garrick Ohlsson is an ideal artist to tackle Rachmaninov's dazzling Third Piano Concerto, premiered by the composer himself in New York in 1909. Sibelius' impetuosly romantic First Symphony, etching the Northern Lights with orchestral sounds, brings the concert to a rousing conclusion.

Garrick Ohlsson postoncert signings February 16-19 have been cancelled.

Program

  • Dvorák The Water Goblin
  • Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 3
