Symphony No. 10, mvmt. 2, Shostakovich

Shostakovich 10

3:00 PM
Elgar, Barber, Shostakovich
Sunday, December 9, 2012

Our symphonic journey through reflection, joy and drama begins with a performance of Barber's Violin Concerto by CSO Concertmaster Robert Chen, praised by the Chicago Tribune for his "warmly lyrical feeling and virtuosic brilliance." Shostakovich's Tenth Symphony, composed after Stalin's death, bears the eloquent testimony of an artist who survived the Soviet dictator's increasingly unhinged reign. Two-time Classic BRIT Male Artist of the Year award-winner Vasily Petrenko, whose recent recording of the Tenth Symphony won Gramophone’s 2011 Orchestral Award, makes his CSO podium debut.

Tesori is now serving lunch on the weekends! Make your reservation now for Sunday, December 9 or call 312-786-9911.
