Tristan and Isolde, Wagner

The Tristan Effect

Feb24
3:00 PM

Sunday, February 24, 2013

Whether you're encountering a piece of music for the very first time or rediscovering a beloved work, each concert in Beyond the Score, the CSO's highly successful multimedia series, presents an orchestral masterwork as you've never heard it before. Weaving together historical narrative with live actors, visual illustrations and musical examples played by the Orchestra, Beyond the Score Creative Director Gerard McBurney guides the audience through each masterpiece, engaging the imagination and the ear.

Few works of art have made such an overwhelming impression on music history as Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde. Beyond the Score explores this opera from Prelude to “Liebestod” and discovers how this blazingly original music influenced not only composers as different as Mahler, Strauss, Scriabin and Debussy, but painters, architects, poets, novelists, playwrights, film-makers and philosophers.

Please note this concert will be performed without intermission.

Enhance your experience! Each Friday afternoon, stay for a free postconcert Q&A with Gerard McBurney to learn about the creative process behind the development of each Beyond the Score program and discover details that didn't make it into the final cut.
