Composer Bernard Rands talks about the inspirations behind Danza petrificada, a new work he is writing for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Riccardo Muti. Part of the CSO’s tribute to Mexico on the two-hundredth anniversary of the start of its War of Independence, Danza petrificada receives its world premiere under Muti during the Maestro’s inaugural fall residency as CSO music director.
Bernard Rands is well known for the distinctive lyrical and dramatic character of his music. Notable among his more than 100 compositions are the many settings for voice and instrumental ensemble; his song cycle Canti del Sole received the Pulitzer Prize in 1984. Read more >
