Meet The Performers

Visiting Artist

Wynne Delacoma

I’ve been a critic, arts reporter and feature writer for most of my career, starting with two years as dance critic and backup music critic at the Milwaukee Journal before moving back to my native Chicago to write for the Sun-Times. After too many years as a free lance, I joined the staff in 1990 and was principal classical music critic for the paper from 1991 to 2006. Since leaving the Sun-Times in 2006, I’ve been teaching more, mainly at Medill where I’ve taught for 25 years.

Before focusing on the arts, I was a general assignment reporter for the Pioneer Press chain, principally writing for the Evanston Review. My first teaching assignment at Medill was the graduate-level Intro course, the 20th century equivalent of Journalism Methods, but  I have been teaching the grad-level Arts Reporting and Seminar in recent years. I did my undergrad work in journalism at Marquette University in Milwaukee and earned my master’s degree from Northwestern’s School of Music.

I’ve served on the boards of the Dance Critics Assn. and the Music Critics Assn. of North America and have won a Lisagor Award for arts criticism for the Chicago Headline Club, the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. I'm married to a former Chicago Tribune sports copy editor and know far more than I should about Big Ten football and the Cubs.
