Oklahoma-born violinist Wendy Koons began her studies at the age of 5 in her local Suzuki program. In 1989, she won the Buttram String Awards, the most prestigious music award in Oklahoma. In 1993, Wendy graduated from the Eastman School of Music. She then earned her Master of Music degree at Rice University in 1995 under the instruction of Ken Goldsmith. Shortly after graduation from Rice University, she won a position with the Kansas City Symphony, where she played for seven years.

In the summer of 1999, Koons was invited to tour Japan with the Pacific Music Festival International Orchestra conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, as part of the festival’s 10th anniversary celebration. Wendy has also participated in such festivals as Tanglewood, the Colorado Music Festival, the National Orchestral Institute and the Grant Park Music Festival.

Wendy spent the 2002/03 season playing with the Saint Louis Symphony, and she began her position with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in the summer of 2003.
