Bass

A soloist of the prestigious Kirov Opera Company since 1984, and one of their leading bassists, he has taken part in numerous tours with the Kirov-Mariinsky Company travelling all over the world.

Engagements in the West have included 'Boris Godunov' at the Salzburg Easter Festival, 'Prince Igo'r in Vienna, Tchaikovsky's 'Sorceress' at the Concertgebouw, Berlioz's 'Damnation of Faust' in Rome with the Academy and Chorus of Santa Cecilia, Basilio in 'Il barbiere di Siviglia' at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Pimen in 'Boris Godunov' at the Washington Opera, 'Onegin' at La Scala and 'Don Carlo' at Teatro Muncipal de Santiago.

An accomplished concert artist, Aleksashkin has sung amongst others Shostakovich's Symphony No.13, Verdi's Requiem and Tchaikovsky's 'Iolante' with some of the worlds leading conductors such as Sir Georg Solti with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Juri Temirkanov, Noseda and Vladimir Jurowski.

Aleksashkin has recorded with the Kirov Opera Company under Maestro Gergiev, including the Fiery Angel and Sadko, both on Philips and several Shostakovich Song Cycles for the BBC..

Recent engagements include Songs and Dances of death with the NDR, Hamburg, Shostakovich 13 with the Berlin SO, with the Danish Radio SO conducted by Juri Temirkanov and with the Icelandic SO, Mendoza in 'Betrothal in a monastery' with Vladimir Jurowski at the Glyndebourne Festival, and 'Iolante' in concert with the LPO at the Royal Festival Hall again with Vladimir Jurowski.

Future engagements will include 'Eugene Onegin' at the MET and Prokofiev's 'The Gamblers' with the LPO.
