Linda Watson

Linda Watson was born in San Francisco and completed her studies at the conservatories of Boston and Vienna. Her operatic career started in Aachen and soon she became one of the leading dramatic sopranos. She made her Vienna State Opera debut as Venus in TANNHÄUSER and was engaged at the Bayreuth Festival as Kundry under Giuseppe Sinopoli followed by Ortrud from 2000 to 2005. In 2006/2007 she was Brünnhilde in the new Bayreuth RING, conducted by Christian Thielemann.

As one of the leading Brünnhilde, she sang in the RING cycles of San Francisco and Los Angeles Opera, Vienna State Opera, Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Théâtre Du Chatelet, Paris. As Isolde she was heard in Los Angeles and Amsterdam, Munich and the Metropolitan Opera New York. La Scala has invited her for a new production of LOHENGRIN as Ortrud. In the world-leading opera houses she was acclaimed as Kundry, Isolde, Ortrud, Elisabeth, Fidelio, Dyer’s Wife (in FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN) and lately as ELEKTRA.

Linda Watson has worked with important conductors like Zubin Mehta, James Levine, Valery Gergiev, Antonio Pappano, Kent Nagano and Christian Thielemann.

Her performances as Brünnhilde of the RING cycle in Bayreuth have appeared on CD and ELEKTRA from Baden Baden on DVD.
