Evelyn Herlitzius studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg. First engagements in Flensburg, Saarbrücken and Karlsruhe.
Since her debut at the Dresden State Opera in 1997 as Leonore in Fidelio she has performed regularly with this company (roles such as Leonore in Fidelio, Elisabeth and Venus in Tannhäuser, Jenufa, Salome, Kundry in Parsifal, Färberin in Die Frau ohne Schatten, Jeanne in Die Teufel von Loudon).
Evelyn Herlitzius has performed with all the major opera companies throughout Europe and Japan, including the Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Vienna State Operas, the Deutsche Oper Berlin (complete Ring Cycle, 2010), De Nederlandse Opera, Teatro alla Scala di Milano (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk in Katerina Izmaylova, Wozzeck in Marie), Gran Teatre del Liceu (Die Walküre in Brünnhilde - opposite Plácido Domingo as Siegmund and Kundry in Parsifal in 2011), Teatro de la Maestranza, Seville. Evelyn Herlitzius also has a busy concert career. Sir Simon Rattle engaged her for Schönberg's Erwartung with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for concerts in Berlin and New York (2009) and for Die Walküre in Brünnhilde (2012). Pierre Boulez invited her to sing with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (Glagolitic Mass, March 2010). First Lied recital in 2011 at the Dresden State Opera.
After her debut with the Bayreuth Festival in 2002 in the role of Brünnhilde, Evelyn Herlitzius received re-invitations for the Ring Cycle in 2003 and 2004 as well as for Parsifal in Kundry in 2006 and 2007. New production of Lohengrin in Ortrud, 2010. Salzburg Festival 2011, new production Die Frau ohne Schatten in Färberin.
Evelyn Herlitzius has worked with many important conductors and stage directors including Sir Georg Solti, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Daniele Gatti, Adam Fischer, Christian Thielemann, Fabio Luisi, Kent Nagano, Semyon Bychkov, Willy Decker, Jürgen Flimm, Andreas Homoki, Harry Kupfer, Nikolaus Lehnhoff, Christof Loy, Hans Neuenfels and Christoph Schlingensief.
Evelyn Herlitzius has been awarded the Kammersängerin title (2002). She has also received the "Christel-Goltz-Prize" (1999) and the "Deutsche Theaterpreis Faust" (2006).
